The site was to become a permanent premises for the inspection of vehicles arriving to the mainland UK from Europe. Whilst the new permanent fixture is under development, HMRC constructed a temporary facility which includes an Inspection shed, security cabins, office blocks and WC’s, as well as storage units and charging points for refrigerated freight to allow operations to commence.
During this phase, DL M&E were engaged to design and install a power distribution solution and life safety systems for the temporary facilities. The installation comprised a new MCCB Panel housed within an IP Rated enclosure, along with a new containment system and distribution cabling throughout the site.
External lighting was also provided by means of new external lighting columns. The cabins were also provided with a MCWS from an external cold-water booster tank which was fully trace heated.
Due to the adverse weather conditions of the site and proximity to moving Heavy Goods Vehicles, the design and installation posed several challenges to overcome to ensure a practical solution could be achieved, whilst also maintaining the safety of operatives and working within budget constraints. The project was successfully delivered, and DL anticipate further projects as the permanent site develops.
