Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Trainee Estimator with a mechanical bias, ideally with on-site experience, to transition into an office-based estimating role.
The Role
As a Trainee Estimator, you will work closely with the estimating team to learn how to prepare accurate cost estimates for mechanical projects. This role is ideal for individuals currently working on-site who wish to transition into an office-based position with career progression opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing cost estimates for mechanical installations in MEP projects.
- Review project specifications, drawings, and contracts to understand the scope of work.
- Work with senior estimators to gather and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Support the pre-construction team in pricing tenders and preparing bid submissions.
- Learn to identify potential project risks and cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist with updating and maintaining cost databases for materials and labour.
- Attend site visits and meetings as required to gain practical project insights.
Requirements
- Previous on-site experience in a mechanical trade (e.g., plumbing, HVAC, or pipefitting) preferred.
- A strong interest in transitioning to an estimating role within the MEP industry.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and installation methods.
- Good numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with estimating software is a plus.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to learn and develop within the company.
